Our House hustle: Founder, Design Badass

Why did you decide to start Our House? Last November threw me for a loop. Like many, I was incredibly angry, disappointed, and frustrated - but also like so many, I was fired all the way up. I was motivated to act but struggled with identifying how, but it wasn't until the Women's March that I gained some clarity. My friends and I loved what we saw at the marches, and we often showed our highest praise for a witty sign by lamenting how much we wish we had that saying on a shirt or on a print. I knew this idea had legs and it was also a way I could use my graphic design skills that I had slowly been developing over the years. I gathered two of my closest friends to help build Our House from the ground up, and we gathered inspiration for merch from the marches, our communities, and our own experiences. 10 collections later, here we are...and we're just getting started.

Which Our House collection particularly resonates with you? You Do You - I love how the message can be interpreted from multiple frames of reference. The trans community is far too often marginalized and stigmatized - and in the current political climate, openly targeted. You Do You is an answer to that and is a collection about trans empowerment, autonomy, and recognition - ideas that we need to continue to support and protect, especially now.
Podcast you’re listening to right now:
I listen to a lot of podcasts (looking at you, 2-hour CTA daily commute), but the most consistent ones are probably My Favorite Murder, Pod Save America, and the Read. Though they run the gamut as far as topics go, they all use humor as a mechanism for talking about some of life's more serious issues. In a way, that's some of what Our House is about too, so it explains a lot!
Best party trick: Playing “All My Life” by K-Ci and Jojo on the piano - it always gets people (myself included).
